A few weeks ago we had the chance to spend a few days at VIVOOD, one of the very few, or perhaps the only nature-based architectural concept in Spain that allows you to discover the true meaning of rest and relaxation. Apart from luxuriating in all the comforts of its rooms and restaurant services, you can enjoy hiking trips in the surrounding area. In our case, we completed a 15 km walk, venturing off the beaten track in what proved to be a truly delightful experience; in fact, we walked all the way round the Guadalest reservoir: 67.5 hectares in the Júcar Basin in Alicante.
Following a delicious dinner and whilst lingering over a cup of ristretto on the restaurant terrace, we had the chance to meet and chat to Daniel Mayo, CEO at VIVOOD, an architect and the brain behind both the concept and project. Daniel is a dynamic person whose meticulous attention to detail and his guests is quite frankly delightful.
VIVOOD is highly recommendable for everyone who knows the true value of "the sound of silence": relaxing strolls, clear blue skies, oxygen, taking part in trail running along paths, tracks, trails or minor roads, or across mountains, hills, heathland, crossing rivers and streams, or simply enjoying life, a journey through time and space.

Just a few days ago we discovered an interesting video about the lifeguards on the north coast of Hawaii, one of the most dangerous coastlines on the planet. They work with waves that are between 15 and 18 meters high, and the secret to their survival (and their success) is the fact that they use their surroundings as a training ground. "Training in these conditions makes sure we're ready for when we have to make a rescue, and you have to be practical, as well as agile." - Bryan Phillips.
Instead of lifting weights, they practice other sports such as swimming, surfing, mountain biking and trail running to keep fit and highly agile for when they have to swing into action. They eat food that is healthy, and above all, light. "When you do this job, you go home with a sensation of respect, the feeling that you've helped someone." - Kumu Blomfield.

A few days ago we read an interesting article published in MEDIUM entitled ‘Don’t wear black socks with brown shoes. The simple rules of men’s clothing’. In this article, Dan Dartington gives a keen insight into certain basic rules of dressing (that you are naturally free to follow or not) yet which are based on sound principles in terms of teaming up items, accessories, colours, style. It will take you just three minutes of your time to read, and we are convinced that it will be time well spent.

We’ve come across one of those gadgets that can prove extremely useful both at home and when you’re on the move: the first hand device for washing delicate items using ultrasonic technology.
Dolfi avoids the traditional rubbing of fabric (during hand or machine washing) as it cleans thanks to a cavitation effect and the implosion of tiny microscopic bubbles that impact on the threads, the crossovers and joins of the series of threads or fibres that make up the fabric and... in around 30 minutes, the garment will be totally fresh and clean.

Here at BAI APPAREL we believe in more than just aesthetics. In fact, it is technology that drives us towards the initial state that defines garments. For some time now we have been researching a range of fibre structures (the starting point for the creation of the eventual fabric). Although we are currently using DWR technology (Durable Water Repellent) in the production of tailored swim shorts, we are eager to move ahead technologically and are confident that this progress will soon take shape.
We are considering using tetrachannel and hexachannel structured fibres in a new accessory. The series of upper and lower spaces generated by these structures has a capillary action that transfers moisture from the inside of a fabric to the outside, thereby guaranteeing excellent evaporation rates and eliminating condensation, leading to the following changes in status: from liquid to gas and from there to evaporation.
The top illustration (in microscopic scale) shows the section of a hexachannel fibre we believe could be suitable for use.

Some time ago we discovered a company that specializes in customizing certain models of ROLEX watches, leading to the creation of much coveted timepieces. With their unique, robust design directed at the hunter market, not only do the customized PRO HUNTER models pay tribute to ROLEX but also to the history, style and spirit of the company.
Its designs are inspired by vintage models, such as Daytona, which features anti-reflective bevelled edges; the models worn by the crews of military submarines, specially created for the Special Boat Squadron; or the DLC (diamond-like carbon) treated models made for some British army officers in Africa.
The customizations (using brand new ROLEX watches at all times) include: three styles of extremely hard DLC anti-reflective treatments (original, matt and discrete); (20 or 22 mm) synthetic NATO watch straps for greater comfort when doing outdoor activities; a limited edition serial number engraved on the bottom of the box; typographic printing on the dial; and hands in customized colours.
Our friends at BLENDER AGENCY in Oslo, Norway, created a very special edition (a limited edition of ten watches) to commemorate its 10th anniversary, using a DLC-treated ROLEX Military Submariner model in a 40 mm case, with a G10 camouflage-patterned strap. Absolutely beautiful!

5. Comfort.: from Old French confort, from the Late Latin confortāre. According to the Collins dictionary, 1. A state of ease or well-being. 2. A person, thing, or event that brings solace or ease. 3. (Usually plural) Something that affords physical ease and relaxation.
Considering our designs from the perspective of the definitions given above, one of the key elements that get men who are already fans of our swimwear exclaiming “Wow! They’re really comfortable” is our determination not to exceed the 120 grams dry weight limit (Size M). Even with a pattern made up of 25 pieces, plus two metal trims, a tie string, grosgrain, elasticated bias binding and four buttons, we have achieved what other brands can only offer with a dry weight of 250 grams or more.
The dry weight is essential, as when wet, other similar garments can increase in weight by between 160% and 180% (depending on the fabric type and composition). What’s more, our swimwear is designed not just for bathing, but also for enjoying a stroll in fine weather, teamed with a (long sleeve) lightweight shirt or a terry cotton polo shirt, etc. It even looks great (if the situation warrants it) with footwear such as a pair of Derby shoes, suede loafers or brogues.

A collection of 17 photographs taken by Matthieu Paley since 1999 in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Siberia. Shot with a mix of medium format and 35 mm film, many of these photographs have not previously been exhibited or available for sale they represent much of Paley’s finest work over the past decade.
Paley’s work is not only easily or simply acquired. Few people ever visit the regions which he has made his second home. His photographs are taken in the valleys, on the ice lakes and over the passes of many of the remotest parts of Asia, often reached following days or weeks walking or riding from the nearest road. Frequently, his choosen time to visit these beautiful but inhospitable regions is not during the inevitable short summer when the mountain passes are open and the areas are more accessible, but in the depths of winter when the environment is at its most harsh and inhospitable and temperatures drop to 30°C below zero. For Paley this provide the best and working conditions to capture his ethereal and awe inspiring photographs.

After the presentation of our tailored fit swim shorts for men at the international trade fair 86th Pitti Immagine Uomo, Florence, Italy, we have denoted a special interest in our creations through buyers from Italy, Germany and Switzerland, as well as that, the public in general went looking for: quality Vs. quantity and creativity Vs. ego.
Also we have found a kind of buyers, that further of his personal tastes they have understood our product and philosophy (very important detail for the commercialisation of our creations) and has not been necessary to deepen into the technical characteristics, since they have appreciated at first sight or by means of his touch.

Fun and technological aquatic vehicle that manufactures meticulously using materials and components of first class in Stuttgart, Germany and that you can use in any type of water although the sea is it native element. It convinces so much on the surface of the water like in the depth. This machine of sport and entertainment is totally respectful with the environment.
By security reasons the programming of the series limits the depth of immersion to 2.5 m. Through the on board’s electronic system, expert divers can configure a maximum depth of 40 m.

"Slow" marine animals show their secret life under high magnification. Corals and sponges are very mobile creatures, but their motion is only detectable at different time scales compared to ours and requires time lapses to be seen. These animals build coral reefs and play crucial roles in the biosphere, yet we know almost nothing about their daily lives.
Answer to a common question: yes, colors are real, no digital enhancement, just white balance correction with curves. When photographers use white on corals, they simply miss the vast majority of colors.

From Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, Sarah Lee is incessantly glued to camera viewfinders, DaFiNs, and the sea. Her passion for photography, particularly underwater and surf photography was shaped by a childhood where she was constantly playing in and around the ocean. As a long-distance swimmer and surfer, her strength as an athlete in the ocean and tide allows her to capture swimmers and surfers in the special way she does beneath the sea.
"My aim in making photos is to capture and accentuate the beauty in what surrounds me. Photography to me is a mode of visual problem solving and a way to perpetuate the stoke, whether it be above the surface or below."
Currently, she located in Newport Beach, California, attending Chapman University where she is majoring in Film Production with an emphasis in Documentary.

A year ago, we opted to use polyamide warps (the series of yarns arranged in parallel on a loom in order to weave a fabric) for our tailored swim shorts. This decision was due to a number of characteristics of this fibre, but above all its outstanding durability and resistance.
Polyamides can be either natural (such as wool or silk) or synthetic (like nylon or Kevlar). A polyamide is a kind of polymer that contains recurring amide groups. The first polyamides were synthesised by the team led by US chemist Wallace Hume Carothers (1896 – 1937), an inventor and head of the Organic Chemistry Department at DuPont Corp. In 1935 he obtained the first synthetic fibre to be produced on an industrial scale, the Nylon 6,6 polyamide.
Carothers was the head of the group working at the Experimental Station Chemical Laboratories, just outside the city of Wilmington in the US state of Delaware, where most of the research into polyamides was carried out. Carothers was an organic chemist who, in addition to being the first to create nylon fibres, also completed the groundwork for the development of neoprene. After receiving a PhD from the University of Illinois in 1924, he went on to teach at several universities before joining DuPont where he worked mainly in development.

A couple of weeks ago we discovered this video by Nathan Kaso, an amateur photographer living in Melbourne, Australia, who has managed to enthral us with his subtle visions of natural spaces, together with the accompanying music entitled ‘Time Lapse’ by Tom Day.
The Waters of Greenstone was shot over a three-week period on New Zealand’s South Island and explores the way landscapes evolve in Catlins Forest Park, Fiordland National Park, Queenstown, Mount Aspiring National Park, Mount Cook National Park, Arthurs Pass National Park and Castle Hill. We are sure you will love it as much as we did.

One of the most exquisite sensations of 2013 has to be our visit to Hideki Matsuhisa at his restaurant KOY SHUNKA (Hideki was awarded his first Michelin star in 2013). If you can find the time to pay a visit we guarantee that several (or even all) of your senses will thank you for it, as it promises to be one of those experiences that will stay in your mind for ever. You can rest assured that you will be welcomed with a friendly and sincere Japanese smile.
Not only will you experience at first hand the impeccable standard of service and care they put into everything their sharp eyes observe and their skilful hands touch, but you will also have the chance to see the incredibly smooth teamwork and the pulchritude of all the cooking and serving utensils. Incidentally, you may be interested to learn that the automatic fire extinguishing systems in the kitchen are equally as shiny as the sets of Yanagiba, Nakiri, Usuba, Deba and Santoku knives.
Should the opportunity arise, in addition to observing the chefs as they prepare the various dishes, you may dein the impeccable attention given to ‘Hado’ (the knife blade) which is sharpened using various Japanese stones, and the ‘Kiriha’ (the knife bevel).
Nota bene (top tip): share the experience with someone special; definitely no clock-watching; dine at the low L-shaped bar; and book well in advance. You’ll find KOY SHUNKA at Calle Copons 7, Barcelona, Spain.

It is obviously not the best time of year for swimming in Lake Como. With a depth of 416 metres (in the Argegno Reservoir), this is Italy’s third largest lake and one of the deepest in Europe. With the water temperature at around 1°C (33.8°F) and -2°C (28.4°F), only the mallard ducks, and a few other species of anatidae, are brave enough to take the plunge in these freezing waters (which I imagine in summer are absolutely delightful). Yet in November, you would probably be better-advised to take a gentle evening stroll and watch the sun setting between the green and snow-capped peaks of the pre-alpine valleys.

One of the main reasons for designing hydrophobic swim wear was that generally men and women do not give enough importance to keeping constant levels of humidity in their bodies especially in the genital and kidneys areas. It is scientifically proven that in the case of women, the moisture retained in their swim suits causes infections and discomfort directly associated to excess moisture and, in the case of men, they would get the same problems in the same given situation. Added to this, for example, is also the inconvenience of having to get out of a swimming pool and carry a wet swim suit around in your bag. Without getting into further technical details, only by putting a single drop of water on any of our swim shorts, it gives an angle of 150 ° and 180 °, and in this case you will notice that the water rests on the surface without getting it wet nor spreading over it, therefore meaning that a solid surface could be considered as being super hydrophobic. You will find that this has been the result obtained with all our swim shorts.

A short story that narrates the reunion between Lara M. Lowe and Daniel F. Wood many years after their last meeting. Lara and Daniel shared a true and close friendship during their childhood, with a consolidated relationship based on affection, trust, games, travel and holidays, etc. Daniel brings about the meeting, as 20 years later, during a stopover in Madrid, he surprises Lara by arranging a meeting in one of the city’s restaurants; in addition to bringing them together again, he also suggests they travel to the Island of Angaga, in the Maldives (where they spent part of their childhood). The title ‘Come As You Are’ is directly related to the sense of freedom they experienced as children and Daniel’s style of dress, which has remained unchanged despite the passing of time.
